‘Guernica – the destruction of a town and the creation of a masterpiece’ is the theme for this year’s International Brigade Memorial Trust annual conference in Manchester on Saturday 7 March.
The IBMT keeps alive the memory and spirit of the men and women from Britain, Ireland and other countries who volunteered to defend democracy and fight fascism in Spain from 1936 to 1939. This year the organisation’s annual Len Crome Memorial conference will focus on the events which led to the creation of Picasso’s famous painting.
Invited speakers include authors Nick Rankin, Gijs van Hensbergen, Helen Little and Manuel Moreno, while IBMT chair, Dolores Long, and secretary Jim Jump will open and close the conference.
Conference fees vary from £15 in advance to £50 with coffeee, lunch and evening meal.
