The Red Shed Players of Wakefield have more West Yorkshire bookings for their much-praised performance of ‘Life is Not Beautiful Until it’s Beautiful for Everyone’, described as “five stories of radical happiness” intended “to help build a better future”.
The five 10-15-minute plays, staged at The Shakespeare in Sheffield on Sunday 10 September, were lauded by audience members, one of whom described them as “brill, inspiring, brilliant cameos of vital struggles over the years with great performances and music from the small but very lively and talented cast”.
The new performances will take place at Calder Vale Hotel in Horbury Junction on Thursday 5 and Friday 6 October. Both are benefit gigs for Amnesty International’s Wakefield group.
Telling of struggles from the past and present, the plays enact the tales of Louise Michel and the Paris Commune; Paul and Joyce Dainton and their 25-year battle against Wakefield’s toxic tip; Jayaben Desai and the Grunwick dispute; Dave Nixon and Insulate Britain; and Emily Carrigan’s Leeds-based Rainbow Junktion.
